research seminar
The SOAR Research Seminar is a required course for SOAR Academy students in their 2nd and 3rd year. It is an independent study course (weekly meeting dates) in which students design and conduct an original research project and/or research and write an original research essay as well as present that work to relevant university-level audiences. More specifically, a primary goal of the SOAR Research Seminar is to support students as they prepare a research project (the design and specifications will vary) that he/she will enter in at least one of the following four forums: Central South Carolina Region II Science and Engineering Fair, South Carolina Junior Academy of Science, SC Junior Science and Humanities Symposium, National History Day in SC. This course carries an elective credit; it does not excuse the two honors classes students must complete each year to maintain their status in SOAR Academy.
